Chapter 11 Reading Reflection

What I Learned-

 Chapter 11 focuses on how teachers and students can use technology to become active participants in evaluating and assessing their own growth as learners. The chapter then goes into detail about 3 ways to use technology to self-asseses and reflect on learning which include, teacher,student, and student involvement and learning assessment. When i was reading the chapter something that grabbed my attention was the part that mentioned all the different forms that not only students can be assessed but etchers as well. Many of these forms of assessment incorporate using technology weather it's its using performance-based portfolios, presentations, and student assessment. 

What I Wonder? 

I wonder what it will be like when i become a teacher and have to be evaluated by any professional personal. Will i use technology and use a digital portfolio or would it be easier and less complicated to stick to an old fashioned pen and paper method?

Chapter 10 Reading Reflection

What I Wonder-

The main focus in chapter ten is all about computer technologies, and the capabilities they can provide for a teacher to be able to meet the learning needs of all the students. Especially for special needs learners because technology makes it possible teaching activities that respond to a range of learning styles and preferences. The chapter also discusses two approaches, universal design for learning and differentiated instruction. What i never knew and found to be so great about this chapter were all the assistive digital tools that support successful learning for all students. 

What I Wonder? 

If some students prefer to do work or assignments on paper when do assignments that involve technology, is it ok to provide them with a possible alternative?

What I Learned-

 Chapter nine discusses using technology as a means to present information such as using powerpoint, presentation software, podcasts, and vodcasts. All of these are  examples of multimedia technologies which combines text, data, voice, picture and video. All of these tools can be very beneficial to establish a high quality interaction between the user and the program it can also present information in a new and exciting way. What I found to be interesting about the chapter is all that you and your students can accomplish using technology. 

What I Wonder?

With all of these technologies being used, how do you monitor or handle students that are being used careless or misuse the equipment.

Chapter 8 Reading Refelction

What I learned - 

Chapter 8 discusses various ways that teachers and students can use computers and other technologies to share  ideas and information in classrooms and online learning environments. One of the main ideas in this chapter are the benefits of using communication technologies into your instructional practices and related outside the classroom responsibilities. By using these  technologies such as e-mail, instant messaging, teacher websites, discussion bored, blogs, and wiki's makes rapid exchange of information possible between one another. What i found to be most interesting about the chapter were all the precautions you must take when incorporating these technologies into your lesson plans. 

What I Wonder? 

How those students without access to technology will be able to contribute on their own time outside of school. If this is the case for some your students how can i make sure they are can gain access through outside resources.

Chapter 6 Reading Reflection

What I learned?

 Chapter six discusses the importance of information management and why it's a necessity when teachers and students utilize learning  resources provided by educational websites and other online sources.  This is known as digital content  which helps to manage information electronically and teach the schools curriculum. This chapter also talks about how A teacher can create their own standards using standards connector. This is a collection of web resources that facilitate teaching required topics. What i found to be most interesting and beneficial about this chapter were all the educational websites they list and describe. I could definitely see how these sites could someday be very useful as a helpful tool for someday when i become a teacher. 

What I Wonder?

 I often times have difficulties organizing information electronically and as a natural instinct will typically write any information i need to know down on paper. This chapter was very helpful in giving me ideas on how to do so, I'm just curious as to what strategy will work best and be easy enough for me to understand.

Reading Reflection: Chapter 4

Reading Reflection: 

Chapter four is all about technology integration and educational change to help teacher's infuse technology into both classroom instruction and professional work. The chapter went into detail and listed examples of 3 main primary ways teachers can use technology to teach their students. These 3 main ways are inside-theclassroom teaching tools, outside-the-classroom professional resources, and outside-the-learning-classroom learning experiences for students. The chapter also talks about how to integrate  technology into the classroom and the stages and issues that are involved when doing so. What i found most interesting in the chapter was the section about the digital divide, digital inequality, and participation gap. I was very surprised to find the discrepancy between the number of white's that have access to a computer compared to the number of students that are African American or Hispanic.

What I Wonder? 

Because of Technology Integration and Educational change is it better to stick with type one technology because of the simplicity compared to the complications you might be faced with using type two technology?

What I learned?

 How students and teachers can find important information and evaluate the internet as a teaching and learning environment. The chapter also discussed different search engines and how they work. Search engines work by gathering information from a software program that uses network's of computers to access info about a topic from its database. What i found fascinating is how fast a search engine propels an internet connected computer instantaneously through millions of web pages to locate topic related sites. 

What I Wonder?

How can you make it easier to determine weather or not the online information your using is accurate and appropriate.

Ch. 3 Developing Lessons with Technology 

What I learned? 

Chapter three discusses how teachers plan, deliver and assesses lessons that engage tech academic content while integrating all aspects of the lesson plan. There are two main models of lesson planning, student learning objectives and understanding by design. Student learning objectives are the intended planned outcome of the instructional activity. UBD on the other hand had 3 main components identify desired results, determine acceptable evidence and plan learning experiences and instructions. The chapter also discussed the different ways to evaluate and assesses students progress. Evaluation and assessment do differ from one another and have different meanings. Foe example evaluations is what teachers do at a the end of a grade or unit to test their performance. Assessment on the other hand happens throughout a lesson or unit to monitor the student to see who is learning easily and who may need extra help. One more thing that i learned from the chapter was about the the national educational standards for teachers. i had no idea of all the various disciplines that i teacher moust follow as well as technology standards that exist as well. 

What I Wonder? 

Do those students suffer or benefit more from those that teach and assesses in the same ways that there teachers did without all the technically advanced methods we se being used today.

Chapter 2: Reading Reflection

What I Found: Chapter 2 focuses on how using visual learning, information research and retrieval, collaborative feedback, and rapid feedback makes technology unique, powerful, and transformative. The chapter listed examples and definitions of the different experiences listed above and how using a certain form of technology can promote those experiences in positive ways. The chapter also outlined what the science of learning theory that is most often used by teachers. This theory Is Behaviorism cognitive science constructivism and this theory focus is student centered learning. This is the goal as a teacher and it creates situations where students can engage after learning, minds-on, problem solving and thoughtful reflection about academic experiences.

What I Wonder: 

How effective technology really is for a teacher once they have entered the world of education? Do computers and other forms of technology always make learning a positive or is it possible that at times it might complicate learning or teaching.

Ch.1 Becoming an e-teacher

-What I Learned?

This chapter focuses around a teachers personal motives for wanting to incorporate technology in the classroom. What i hadn't realized before reading this chapter was how young children are being exposed to technology and different kinds of electronics. Since technology has become woven apart of our everyday lives we tend to take it for granted. The chapter also discusses on p. 5 the many advantages to use technology in the classroom. The main reason being that it lets you change teaching and learning in enriching and productive ways. What i found to be interesting was how the chapter discussed what web 2.0 is, a term i had not heard of before. This new generation of technology can be used to create highly interactive, inquiry-based learning at all grade levels. Overall from reading this chapter the main idea i found was the importance of being able to confidently integrate the computer and other digital electronic resources into teaching and learning. 

-What I Wonder?

I wonder with technology constantly changing and improving what the next major advancements will be  and how it might affect our society in positive and negative ways. I also wonder what the next step will be to create web 3.0 or if they've already starting to make more changes to the web to consider it to soon be known as web 3.0

Interview with A Tech Savy Kid:

I interviewed my 13 year old cousin Brooke about what technologies she use to use and what technologies she's currently using. The first thing I asked her was what technologies she could recall using when she was younger. She remembered using technologies such as a desktop computer, television, house phone. and playstation 2. She had mentioned that her favorite game to play with her dad was always mortal combat. The next thing we talked about was her favorite technologies that she uses today. She said out of all them her I-Pod touch is the one she uses the most for music, internet or games. Two more technologies she often uses are her cell phone and x-box. When i asked her if she considered herself to be a digital kid she said "i guess so, i know how to use most of it and sometimes my parents are even coming to me with help on the computer."

Future Students

I imagine my future students to be fully confident  in themselves. Even though they may have originally came from a special education classroom, i have no doubt that they will be successful once beyond the special education setting. As a teacher it will be my goal to make sure that that I've supplied them with the proper tools and guidance to help them get to wherever they dream to be in life. 

Introduction

Hello, my name is Becky i am 22 years old and am currently attending clc for Early Childhood Special Education. This will be my 4th semester at clc and after i receive my associates i plan on attending a four year university, which i am still undecided about. I choose to go into special education because i have a passion for working with children and helping them develop and grow in ways that go beyond the normal classroom setting. I feel as though i will be able to easily relate to my students because i too have a learning disability and was in special education for most of my time in school. I hope to someday be able to giveback to my students the same kind of support and tools i received while in school and ensure them that its ok that sometimes you might need a little extra help.
